Privacy Policy for Momentary
Effective date: 25/03/2026
Momentary is a browser extension that helps users find and jump to relevant moments in YouTube videos using transcripts and timestamped comments. This Privacy Policy explains what information Momentary collects, how it is used, and the choices available to users.
1. Information We Collect
Momentary may collect and process the following categories of information:
- Account information: If you sign in, we may collect your email address and authentication-related information such as session or access tokens.
- YouTube page content: Momentary processes content from YouTube watch pages needed to provide its features, such as video titles, transcript data, timestamped comments, and related page context.
- Extension settings and local state: We may store settings such as display preferences, local model configuration, cached results, and local usage state in browser storage.
- Optional local model connection information: If you choose to connect a local Ollama instance, Momentary may use the local endpoint you provide, such as
http://localhost:11434orhttp://127.0.0.1:11434.
2. How We Use Information
We use information only to operate and improve the extension’s core functionality, including:
- Helping users search within YouTube videos and jump to relevant timestamps
- Retrieving or processing transcript data
- Finding and displaying timestamped comments
- Authenticating users and managing account-based access or usage limits
- Saving preferences and maintaining extension functionality across sessions
- Supporting optional local model features when enabled by the user
3. Local Processing and Storage
Some data is processed or stored locally in your browser to make the extension work properly and improve performance. This may include settings, cached state, transcript-related data, and embedding or search caches.
If you enable an optional local Ollama model, requests to that model are sent to your own local endpoint, not to us.
4. Remote Services
Momentary may send data to its backend service in order to provide account-backed or server-backed features. This can include requests needed for authentication, usage checks, transcript-related processing, search, and comment features.
Momentary does not download or execute remote JavaScript or WebAssembly as part of the extension. All executable extension code is packaged with the extension.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to Momentary’s single purpose. We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
We may share information with service providers only as necessary to operate the extension’s core features, such as authentication or backend processing.
6. Data Retention
Data stored locally in your browser remains until it is removed by the extension, cleared by you, or removed when you uninstall the extension. Data sent to backend services may be retained only as long as reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain security, enforce usage limits, and comply with legal obligations.
7. Your Choices
- You may choose whether to sign in and use account-based features.
- You may choose whether to enable and use a local Ollama model.
- You may remove the extension at any time to stop further collection through the extension.
- You may clear browser extension storage through your browser settings.
8. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information used by the extension. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
Momentary is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date on this page.
